Good for rock/ alt-rock/ college radio bands. In Fremont (north of the ship canal and just East of Ballard) is the High Dive. Bryan John Appleby is another Conor Byrne regular. The Head and the Heart got their start at Conor Byrne. There are a couple really exciting local bands coming out of Ballard. I'm not talking about a place to watch someone have a sing along Danny Boy or The Unicorn Song. Don't be put off by the fact that Conor Byne is an Irish bar. To be fair most of these venues book what they like and you could have hip hop, metal, or alt country at the Sunset. Īlso in Ballard is the rock oriented Sunset Tavern and folk, americana, country, celtic focused Conor Byrne. For example I was just there Saturday night for the KEXP Shake the Shack Rockabilly Ball. and they also periodically get really great world music and some rock/alt rock. In Ballard the Tractor Tavern is Seattle's most famous venue for up and coming and nationally known americana, bluegrass, alt country, rockabilly, roadhouse, contemporary folk etc. The mainstage is stepped table seating and has beautiful sound. As alluded to, this is a seated show venue. The Triple Door (at around 270 seats) is another great venue that is located downtown. The bigger club venues (all easy to reach from downtown) are Neumos ( Capitol HIll),, the Showbox at hte Market(downtown) and the Showbox SoDo (near Safeco field just south of downtown). In fact the Crocodile closed but has been reopened. The Crocodile and the Showbox are really the last of the famous grunge-era clubs remaining in downtown. ĭowntown, the Crocodile was once one of Seattle's storied venues. There will be some bigger bands and overall the lineup I think is pretty incredible, but the venues are spread out and the all access wristband is $69. Here is the link Ĭity Arts fest is also going on in October (20-22). The music typically runs from about 3pm until last call. The $10 21+ wristband gets you access to 8 venues, some professional, some pop up. It is one night, October 8, in Ballard, where I live. In October there is a local music fest in Ballard called Reverb Fest. One of the best things about living here is that there is great music from a wide range of genres every night of the week. Sometimes I skip shows I'd really like because I just can't stay out that late on a work night. I like the Tractor in Ballard and have seen some great acts there, too but it seems as if their shows are always scheduled to start later than anywhere else. The High Dive is a small place but I have seen some surprisingly wonderful shows there. If you want to see some local bands before they hit it big I recommend the Columbia City Theater.

You can also get into the SoDo Showbox early by having a drink or meal in the bar. They're both well run and get some great artists. The Market Showbox is much nicer than the SoDo Showbox, which was an old warehouse.

It was a jazz club way back when and still has some interesting architectural elements. Go early and have a drink or a meal in their Green Room and you get in before the rest of the crowd. I like the Market Showbox very much as well. It's an old vaudeville theater and the restoration is beautiful. I like it best because you can sit down and have a lovely meal while waiting and even during the show. My very favorite venue is the Triple Door. If you can give us more of an idea as to what kind of music you're in to, then we can make suggestions more tailored to you.Ĭheck out the Stranger's on-line concert, club & music calendar:
#CHOP SUEY SEATTLE SEATING SERIES#
It's part of the World Series at Meany (piano, dance, small classical ensembles, etc.). I used to subscribe to the President's Piano series at Meany Hall (UW Campus).
#CHOP SUEY SEATTLE SEATING MOVIE#
The Neptune Theatre in the U District was formerly a movie theatre & is just getting it's start as a concert/movie/lecture venue: There are many more established clubs/smaller performance spaces downtown: Crocodile Cafe, Triple Door, Showbox (2 locations: at the Market, SODO), Tula's, Jazz Alley, Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall. We have a very vibrant music scene here: classical, jazz, garage bands, local & national touring acts.
